Ang Day 4

On day 4 we took a day trip to Kamakura. Kamakura is about an hour away from the center of Tokyo. The area was the capital city of Japan during the 12th and 13th centuries. Kamakura was described to me by friend as temples-r-us, and that’s basically what it is. Also Kamakura is known for its enormous Buddha. The temples were interesting and there were a mix of Shinto and Buddhist. I learned something about myself while walking through these temples. When I see stairs or a path leading up, I have to take it. I feel compelled, I cannot explain why, but where there are stairs, I have a desire to climb them. On the whole, this led Angela and me up a bunch of hills that led nowhere. On the first occasion, however, we got an amazing view of Mt. Fuji (Fujisan, as they say in Japan). The other exciting thing about the area was the Buddha. This dude was HUGE. So big in fact, that you could take a staircase up to the center of his belly, which we did for a reasonable 20 yen. Turns out it’s only 20 yen because there’s absolutely nothing exciting about being inside the Buddha’s belly, but just for being able to say it, it was well worth the money. After we got back from Kamakura we went to the top of the Mori tower. The tower is located in Roppongi Hills and is one of the tallest buildings in Tokyo.
